Four Reasons I Prefer Working Out At Home

I've never been able to do the gym thing for more than a few months at a time. It's just NOT me. I can definitely be a homebody, and it's no exception when it comes to working out. I find it much more preferable to work out at home, and here are my reasons why:

1)It's free!

Hey, gyms with super-low fees: ya know what's even cheaper than $20 a month? Zero dollars a month! I mean, sure, you can invest in a few weights or a yoga mat, but there are SO many ways to work out that require zero equipment. I have a few exercises that I've picked up over the years, and I can do them any time, anywhere, no equipment required. Who needs a gym?! Not this girl!

Also: ya know how much transit I have to take to get my living room? Zero! Score.

2)It's a much more comfortable experience

So, I'm not sure if you're aware of this, but gyms are generally full of people who spend a lot of time at gyms. Shocking, right?! This breed of human usually has this strange thing on their abdomen called a "six-pack" and often have extremely low body fat percentages. If I'm going to be jumping around in tight clothing in front of mirrored walls, I probably don't want to be next to someone who has a body type that is physically impossible for me to obtain.

Not only that, but let's talk about the reason that women's only gyms were invented in the first place: dudes at gyms. Now, I'm not saying that all men at gyms are there to be gross gawkers, not at all! But there are enough of them that exist that if you ask any woman if they know what I'm talking about, they'll nod knowingly.

The only creature I need to worry about being rubbed up against by at my home gym is my cat. And I welcome that. (He's just so cute!) (Maybe gyms with cats should be a thing?)

3)There are tons of resources online!

You may have a few exercises you've picked up over the years that are your go-to's, but if you're running out of ideas, I highly recommend Grokker! You can sign up for a free 14-day trial through my link, and you'll have unlimited access to their huge database of workouts, meditations, and cooking video classes. I like Grokker because it has such a wide variety of videos (from HIIT to yoga) and the classes are led by experts, not just any old Joe Blow who created a YouTube account. And as someone who has hurt themselves trying to work out without any guidance (ouch), I assure you this matters!

4)The whole shower ordeal (you know what I'm talking about!)

Wanna know one of the top five things I DON'T want to do with my time? Rinse off in a communal shower. After that, dry off and re-apply my makeup/deal with my hair with towels and beauty supplies I had to lug with me in a big gym bag. I know this might sound silly, but this is literally my #1 reason for not going to a gym. The only time in my life I went to a gym for a long stretch of time was when I lived in a building that had a gym down the hall from my condo unit. I kid you not!

And sure, I could just go home all stinky-like, but I don't want that, and I'm sure no one on whatever mode of transit I take wants that either.

* * * * *

Working out at home has eliminated so many of my pet-peeves regarding exercise, and I love that I can do it whenever I like. Exercise doesn't have to be a huge ordeal, and even just 20-30 minutes a few times a week will make a difference. I'm so glad I discovered just how easy it is to control my workouts by doing them at home, and I hope this has inspired you to devote some time to getting fit!

  1. I have started working out at home and love it! I think it's great to switch things up and shock your body so it doesn't get used to it all! Great post! :)
